As an independent body, the ACAE Board of Directors is solely responsible for adopting criteria by which programs are evaluated, for establishing accreditation policies and procedures, for making accreditation decisions, and for managing the affairs of the Commission.
All officer and director positions are for a term of three (3) years with the possibility of a second consecutive term. Terms begin on January 1 and end on December 31 in calendar years.
Eligibility Criteria
The following criteria should be considered when nominating members to serve on the ACAE Board of Directors.
All Candidates:
- Be able to evaluate educational programs objectively in terms of curriculum, faculty, facilities, student evaluation and outcomes assessments that meet accreditation standards.
- Commit to one 3-year term, with potential for a second term. The Public Member of the Board serves a 1-year term, renewable for up to 6 years.
- Commit 4 to 8 hours per month to Board of Director activities, including training, comprehensive review of electronically delivered materials, attendance at regular web-based meetings, and travel to one annual meeting.
- Complete Board member training.
- Conduct business through electronic means (e.g., email, ACAE Web Sites) and web-based meeting platforms.
- Abide by the ACAE’s policies related to conflict of interest and confidentiality of accreditation matters.
Educator Candidates:
- Commitment to quality audiology education, specifically the Doctor of Audiology degree
- Active involvement in an accredited audiology program as a full- or part-time faculty member.
- Formal education and licensure in the applicable discipline.
Clinical Preceptor/Practitioner Candidates:
- Commitment to quality audiology education, specifically the Doctor of Audiology degree.
- Prior or current experience as a practitioner.
- Formal education and licensure in the applicable discipline.
Public/Consumer Candidates:
A commitment to bring the public/consumer perspective to ACAE deliberations. In order to serve, the nominee must not be a:
- An audiologist,
- A member of an audiology faculty,
- A member of any trade association, licensing/regulatory agency or membership organization related to, affiliated with or associated with the ACAE, audiology or audiology education, or
- A spouse, parent, child or sibling of an individual identified in 3.
