ACAE at the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) Convention
The ACAE was well represented and the Board very active at the 2019 AAA Convention in Columbus Ohio. On Wednesday, March 27, the Board held a face-to-face meeting in the Convention Center with an agenda that included a number of items ranging from developing status of multiple new Doctor of Audiology programs to a report from Student Academy of Audiology (SAA) representative Jessica Lewis. Immediately after the meeting, most Board members attended a lunch meeting of the Academic and Professional Standards Council.
During the General Assembly held the next morning, the ACAE was prominently cited in a slide show highlighting the five AAA enterprise partners. Chair of the ACAE Board James W. Hall III met at the AAA Convention with senior faculty from several AuD programs from the east to west coasts to review key advantages of ACAE accreditation and to answer questions about the accreditation process. The university representatives expressed interest in initiating ACAE accreditation.
For the first time, an ACAE poster was on display throughout the AAA Convention. Board members presenting the poster engaged in informative discussions with Chairs and other representatives of existing AuD programs about the benefits of ACAE accreditation.
Finally, the Fourth Annual Clinical Education Forum was held in the morning of Saturday, March 30. Co-sponsored by ACAE and CAPCSD, the Clinical Education Forum included platform presentations by an international collection of academic audiologists and a representative of the SAA, as well as small-group meetings. The Clinical Education Forum concluded with a panel discussion that resulted in an action plan for meeting the objective of Infusing Evidence-Based Practice in AuD Education. A report of the 2019 Clinical Education Forum will appear as an ACAE Corner article published in a forthcoming issue of Audiology Today.
